This bridge is a small but noteworthy arch bridge in the Chicagoland region due to the fact that it is an old surviving example of a concrete arch bridge and also because unlike many old concrete bridges in the region, it retains original railings.
The first decade of the 20th Century was a period of experimentation in concrete bridge design and construction, with numerous companies and individuals patenting different designs of bridges and steel reinforcement types. As such, some surviving arch bridges from this period have historically significant concrete reinforcement design. It is unknown if this bridge, built toward the end of this experimental period, might have any unusual reinforcement within. Cast into the outside of the continuous solid concrete parapet railings with rounded ends are simple rectangle panels, which form the extent of architectural detailing on the bridge beyond the intrinsic aesthetic qualities of the arch shape itself. Also cast into the outside of the concrete railings is "1909" referring to the bridge construction date.
