Additional Information courtesy of John Marvig: This bridge was fabricated in 1917 and may have not been completely erected until ca. 1919 when the old bridge was replaced. The photo of the old lattice truss is shown below. That lattice truss dated to 1883 and was relocated and modified to serve as a bridge at Lick Creek.
This bridge is a traditionally composed railroad deck plate girder that passes over the river and valley in the manner of a high level bridge. The deck plate girders are traditionally composed. The massive concrete piers are twice as wide as the existing superstructure clearly designed to accommodate a widening of the superstructure to add tracks to the line, something that never happened. The use of concrete instead of steel bents for a substructure gives this bridge a larger and more massive feel than other comparable bridges with more often tend to be supported by steel bents, or do not have piers designed to accommodate a widening of the bridge. Historical photos show a beautiful lattice deck truss at this location, making the bridge seen today quite a visual downgrade from what was here decades ago.
