Note: This modern bridge is not historic. This page is provided for reasons of comparison and continuity of Calumet related waterway listings only.
This bridge was listed as having a 1949 construction date and a 1993 reconstruction date in the National Bridge Inventory, which is inaccurate. The 1993 date actually refers to a superstructure demolition and replacement project resulting in the modern truss seen today. HistoricBridges.org has a strict policy to not include any bridge newer than 1970, however an exception was made with this bridge since this bridge is one of only a couple truss bridges on the Little Calumet River and Calumet Sag Channel that do not meet the 1970 cutoff date so the bridge is being included for coverage consistency.
David Farmer provided the following information: "Both bridges (NB & SB) were completely replaced in 1992 and 1993 respectively. I was part of the IDOT engineering team for the 1992 work, when we floated in the NB bridge from the east."
This bridge is called the Steel Bridge by Chicago traffic reporters.
