This is a very long multi-span railroad bridge. It sits on a stone substructure that dates to a previous bridge built in 1855. Most of the spans on the bridge today date to 1893. In 1920, the deck plate girder span over Rockwell Road was built by the American Bridge Company. In 1932, McClintic-Marshall Company replaced two deck truss spans with a single rivet-connected Parker through truss span, which is today the main span of the bridge. One of the deck truss spans at the northern end has a rare fishbelly deck truss design where the bottom chord is polygonal.
