This bridge is a pin-connected through truss. Local news articles suggested the bridge was built in the 1890s. However, the end post of this bridge has a very faint brand that appears to read "Jones and Laughlin" without an "s" on the end, which suggests a post-1905 bridge. In either case, the bridge, which was closed to vehicular traffic in 1995, is an attractive historic bridge. There have been plans to put in a pedestrian trail system at this bridge's location. Although reusing historic bridges like this for pedestrian use is a great way to create functional landmarks on trail systems, and can also be cost effective, there has been talk of demolishing and replacing the historic bridge with an ugly modern pedestrian bridge.
The bridge is in need of rehabilitation, as the cantilevered sidewalk (on the east side) is falling off, and the top chord is sagging on the east side in this same area. If reused for pedestrian use, the sidewalk likely would be removed completely, which would likely help in repairing the top chord.
