This extremely rare 1870s bowstring uses the less common King Bridge Company design using a rolled top chord, not built-up. It has been removed and preserved at a rest stop.
It is not known where this bridge was relocated too. One possible source was the old Ellisville Bridge in Fulton County if this bridge had an approach span. The Ellisville Bridge was also a King bowstring, in fact it had a span that may have been one of the longest 1870s bowstring truss spans ever built. An old book from 1879 Fulton County History states:
"The Ellisville iron bridge, erected by the King Bridge Company, of Cleveland, O., over Spoon river in 1876, consists of one span 240 feet long. It is the longest single-span wagon-bridge in the State…" However this text may be worded unclearly, noting only a main span's notable length and perhaps glossing over a potential approach span that may have been part of the bridge. This is all speculation but otherwise the original location of this span is a complete mystery.
