This classic Wrought Iron Bridge Company Whipple truss was left standing for pedestrian use and is noted for its surviving ornamentation. The bridge retains finials, builder, and date plaques. The deck of the bridge shows an unusual sag toward one end. This is worrisome and may indicate a problem, although diagnosing this problem was beyond the scope of the field visit for this bridge, and no obvious causes were observed. It may indicate a sinking substructure for example, however. This bridge is worthy of a full restoration given its significance as a rare Whipple truss with surviving ornamentation as well.
This bridge has an unusual builder plaque that is not the normal plaque style used by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company. The company name is written in a cursive script on this plaque.
