Despite some very crude welded repairs made to this bridge, it retains significance for its cast iron portal bracing details and association with a notable in-state builder. The bridge has some unusual cast iron connection and bearing details that are associated with Indianapolis Bridge Company. The bridge is to be relocated to Sycamore Springs Campground, 1.5 Miles southwest of English, Indiana.

Information and Findings From DHPA Historic Bridge SurveyBridge History and Significance The Indianapolis Bridge Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, fabricated this single-span, pin-connected Pratt through truss which is seated upon cut stone abutments and wingwalls. Intermediate verticals of crafted I-beams subdivide each truss into most of its eight panels. Eyebars provide the diagonals: adjustable pairs stretch toward center span from the top panel point to the bottom of the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th panels; cylindrical eyebars with turnbuckles cross the two most central panels. Adjustable cylindrical rods run horizontally (about midway between the chords) through the intermediate verticals. U-bolted to the lower pins, variable-depth girder floor-beams carry the timber deck and roadway which allows for 13 feet and 6 inches of vertical clearance. Built by a prolific Indiana firm, this bridge retains its original members, including its decoratively latticed portals and its decorative cast iron bracing. The crafting of its verticals from Ts and plates is also unusual. References AECON, Inc., Bridge Inventory and Inspection Report: Crawford County (Nashville, 1973).
