This bridge has been sitting on the ground in storage at this location awaiting a possible reuse, but even here it attracts visitors. People were observed taking photos of each other during the field visit to this bridge.
Information and Findings From DHPA Historic Bridge SurveyStatement of Significance This metal bridge, built c.1884, was probably fabricated by the Massillon Bridge Company. Massillon Bridge Company was a major, early out-of-state bridge designer and fabricator. 1884 falls about halfway into the second decade of metal truss building in Indiana. The number of spans surviving from these initial decades is very limited. The structure seems to be rather intact. Note its decorated portal struts and nameplates plus its approaches. By 2007, superstructure moved to grassy area, apparently in preparation for relocation. References BLN report. Bridge Considered Historic By Survey: Yes |
