This bridge is significant as the oldest known bridge in Indiana, with a construction date of 1837. The bridge appears to have a subtle elliptical shape, which is the most uncommon shape for a stone arch bridge. Another unusual detail is that the arch ring is composed of brick rather than stone. A heavily faded stone plaque with names on it is part of the bridge's solid parapet railings. The bridge also has a length of stone retaining wall that extends west from the bridge on the south side. The north side lacks this length of retaining wall.
