This small pony truss is a standardized design riveted pony truss. Such bridges were common in Iowa and a substantial number were still standing as of 2013. However unless some of these bridges are singled out for preservation, or a change in the way this country funds bridge work occurs, these bridges will likely fall victim to the typical policy of deferring maintenance until the bridge deteriorates and then seeking freebee monies from the federal government for demolition and replacement. Riveted pony truss bridges like this offer much more in the way of beauty, heritage, and craftsmanship than any modern bridge would.
