This eight panel truss bridge is a good representative example of a larger span standard plan truss bridge in Iowa. The bridge retains good historic integrity and appears to be more than sufficient for the rural road it carries. Original channel railings remain on the bridge. The National Bridge Inventory gives this bridge a surprisingly low Serious rating for the superstructure of the bridge. Whatever problems on this bridge may be causing that low rating, they certainly could be easily corrected through a rehabilitation project. There is actually very little back rust or section loss on this bridge's trusses, even on the traditionally troublesome areas such as bottom chord connections.
This bridge carries a road that was apparently the first routing of the famous Lincoln Highway, called the Proclamation Route established in 1913. The route was realigned to other roads in the early 1920s. With a 1925 construction date this bridge falls out of context of the Lincoln Highway's association with Bloomington Road, however the historic bridge is still a nice addition to a historic roadway.
This historic bridge has been demolished. This map is shown for reference purposes only.
