This is a rare double-deck truss railroad bridge that offers a toll highway for vehicular traffic on the upper deck. There once were larger numbers of bridges that combined highway and railroad usage in America, however most of them were turned into railroad-only bridges when separate highway bridges were constructed at later dates to handle larger traffic volumes.
