This is one of the largest and most significant Marsh and rainbow arch bridges in the country due to its large number of spans. A modern bridge was constructed next to this bridge, forming a one-way couplet, a preservation outcome for this bridge. As part of this, the historic bridge was also rehabilitated, and appears to remain in good condition as of 2022.
The National Register Nomination claims this is the largest extant bridge of its kind in the nation. This is untrue as the Cotter Bridge is the largest and most significant rainbow arch in the country, exceeding the Broadway Bridge in span length and overall length. However no other rainbow arch bridge in the country has eight spans (since Cotter's larger spans mean the span number is only six). Both bridges should be considered the top two rainbow arch bridges in the country however, and the Broadway Bridge is the largest of its kind in Kansas. An interesting Canadian comparison can be found in Caledonia, Ontario, although the Ontario example is not a Marsh arch (it uses regular rebar).
When this bridge was built, it was outside city limits and on a street named Lawrence Street at the time.
