This bridge is well-documented as having been erected here in 1909 per KHRI report above. However, its design suggests a possibility that it reused trusses that were originally used for a railroad. The members are far more massive than typical highway bridges in 1909 and composed in a manner similar to a railroad bridge. The KHRI speculates that this was simply because the railroad designed the bridge. However, its possible there is more to the story. Bridgehunter.com speculates that the bridge was "Possibly relocated from a bridge near Quenemo, KS in 1909. The original span there was built 1884, and removed 1905 when the line was double tracked." Despite the bridge's massive members, as a railroad bridge, its pin connections and lightweight portal bracing (for a railroad bridge) could very well be from a ca. 1884 bridge.
