This bridge has the appearance and even some engineering features of a cantilever truss bridge, but as it lacks hinges, suspended span, etc. this design is generally considered to be a continuous type of truss. Whether continuous or cantilever, through truss bridges of this general design are extremely rare for relatively small crossings like this. They were traditionally reserved for large high level crossings such as the Missouri or Mississippi Rivers for example. That said, at one time there were a few bridges of this design extant at Kansas. As of 2016 however, all other examples have been demolished, making this bridge the last small-scale through continuous truss in Kansas. On a quiet rural road and in good condition this bridge should be selected for long-term preservation. Preservation should begin by blasting and painting the bridge, as the paint on the bridge is in, to put it politely, an advanced state of failure.

This bridge also has a notable skew.
