Cast and wrought iron bowstrings such as this one are among the rarest and most significant of historic bridges in the country. Among even that elite group, this bridge stands out as a multi-span example. It displays a visually pleasing and educational comparison with its configuration featuring a 112 foot through truss span flanked by a single 50 foot pony truss span at each end.
This bridge has been abandoned for decades and is one of the most overgrown bridges in existence. As the extremely poor photos show, it is nearly impossible to even see this bridge when leaves are on the trees.
This bridge should either be preserved in place (likely for pedestrian use) or relocated and restored for the same in a new location. The bridge is nationally significant due to its design, age, and multi-span configuration.
