This bridge is a substantial structure, and provides a fair amount of clearance below the bridge. The bridge features a lot of concrete approach spans on the east (Newport) side of the bridge. The main spans of the bridge consist of a polygonal Warren through truss bridge span, with a Warren deck truss span next to each end of the through truss span. This bridge is noted as a truss bridge of substantial size and a bridge with a variety of span types. The bridge appears to retain good historic integrity. The bridge has many built-up beams with lattice, v-lacing, and battens, adding to the complex geometric art of the bridge.
