One of the most unique rainbow arch bridges in the country, this bridge has a lightweight appearance and soaring arch. The bridge is abandoned and severely deteriorated. In particular, the hangers have spalled revealing solid steel reinforcing within, indicating that this bridge is in an engineering sense a Marsh arch. The main arch rib is assumed to have solid steel within as well, however it also has standard rebar in the outermost areas which are visible due to spalling. There used to be another very similar rainbow arch bridge nearby in Prestonsburg at Town Branch, but it was demolished and replaced. Unlike the Town Branch Bridge, this bridge has survived, after being closed to vehicular traffic in 1979 and closed to pedestrians in 2008.
The National Register nomination gave lengths that appear to be too short for this bridge based on measurements made in Google maps. The lengths given by HistoricBridges.org are rough guesses that appear to be closer to reality.
