This bridge is a late but noteworthy example of a riveted cantilever truss bridge because of its rare design. The design is noted for including a truss that transitions from a deck truss to a through truss, and avoids the use of pointy towers normally associated with cantilever through truss. Some variations of this design feature a suspended deck, this is the less common variety that is pure truss with no suspended deck. Although this is a large bridge little is known about its history such as who designed and built it. The bridge retains good historic integrity although the portal bracing has been altered to increase clearance on the bridge.
