This bridge is a significant example of a historic riveted truss bridge that was constructed for pedestrians only. Visually, the bridge displays v-lacing on the top of its built-up top chord and end posts, which is an uncommon detail. The bridge is unusual because it sits on a stone pier at one end, and steel bents at the other end. The bridge was shipped to Intech Contracting of Lancaster, KY for cleaning and repair, and was brought back onsite and re-erected for continued pedestrian use. The bridge was preserved through a transportation enhancement grant. While the exact construction date is not known, the bridge was built c. 1900.
This area apparently once had more pedestrian truss bridges. Dave Michaels also sent the below two photos of another long-lost pedestrian truss bridge in the area, on Benham Street in Dayton, KY. The photos were taken in October 1971. See the two photos below.
