This is a very unusual lightweight deck truss vertical lift bridge that no longer operates for boats and has had all traces of its lift towers removed. The road used to be part of US-90. Plans for the bridge indicate it was motor operated, but for emergencies could also be run as a hand-operated lift bridge, with an operating capstan which would be attached through a hole in the deck, to the gears and machinery, all contained on the lift span under the deck.
