Bridge Documentation

This riveted truss bridge was moved here to replace a previous swing bridge at this location which had itself been moved here many years ago. The history begins with a swing bridge built in the 1890s at Girard that was moved to this location in 1932, to great local fanfare. The 1890s swing bridge was replaced in 1966 with the bridge seen today, which was also a reused and relocated truss bridge. The span seen today was previously located over Bayou D'Arbonne in Union Parish.

The swing pier and rack of the previous bridge at this location remains today, but it has tipped over in the water.
