Bridge Documentation

The bridge features a large central main span, flanked by a single smaller Parker truss on either side. The remaining numerous spans are concrete girder spans. For this state line bridge, the Louisiana Highway Commission took the lead in designing the bridge, and based the bridge design off of their standard plans. However Texas did review and provide comment to the plans as they were developed. Thanks to input from Texas, originally proposed steel stringer spans were changed in the plans to the 120 foot Parker truss spans seen flanking the main span.

In 2019 it was observed that the approach span piers were being replaced with new piers. One of the piers for the main span has also been greatly expanded and strengthened. Despite these improvements, the bridge is ultimately slated for demolition and replacement, which will be a devastating loss for this region which has very few  notable historic bridges.
