Bridge Documentation

This is one of only two Waddell A-frame truss bridges in the entire country, and is also noted for its rare pin-connected Warren deck truss approach spans. Visually, in terms of design and span placement, and also in terms of historical significance, the Waddell A-frame is appropriately the main span of this bridge. However, it is in fact the deck truss approach spans that have the longest span length (127 feet) because the A-frame truss is only 100 feet. Both the A-frame and the deck truss spans were reportedly originally located over the Arkansas River in Oklahoma and were moved to this location in 1926. The bridge is today abandoned, and there have been discussions of converting the bridge to a rail-trail bridge.
