Bridge Documentation

This is a highly unusual example of a very long-span pipeline bridge and it features unusual design. It includes tall suspension towers with "wings" on the side that hold unusual horizontal cables designed to stablize the pipeline as it lacks the stiffness of a larger roadway deck. Bad weather and extensive fencing along the levee limited photos of this bridge. If anyone has better photos of this bridge that more clearly show the main span over the river and is willing to share them (with photo credit given) please contact us. Better photos can be seen on this website too. There is another bridge of nearly identical design over the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River Bridge dates to 1955 and was designed by Matthews & Kenan and built by the American Bridge Company, this one was also reportedly designed and built by the same firms, but in 1951.

Total length given is the estimated pipeline suspended length. Estimated length between anchorages is 4,650 feet.
