This bridge is a good example of a truss bridge designed by the Maine State Highway Commission. Typical of truss bridges the agency designed, it uses a polygonal Warren truss configuration that also includes a horizontal beam that runs through the middle of the truss web. Bridges like this are visually attractive, historic, and well-built. If maintained, they will likely last far longer than any modern bridge could hope to. It is in the interest of good spending of tax dollars to maintain such a bridge. However, this bridge shows signs of neglect with a substantially failed paint system. However, the bridge has not yet succumbed to severe problems like pack rust and section loss. If this bridge were blast cleaned and repainted in the next few years alongside minor repairs, it could be brought back to like-new condition for relatively little cost.
