Maine has very few movable bridges remaining in the state and the majority of those few are plate girder swing bridges. Therefore, this pony truss swing bridge stands out as particularly rare. The bridge's trusses have not been given any special or unusual designs to accommodate the swing design... from on the bridge, looking at the trusses, it is not easy to tell this is a swing bridge since it looks much like a long fixed pony truss bridge. The bridge does still operate for boats and it retains good historic integrity.
