This bridge is a late example of a pin-connected through truss, and it is a traditionally composed bridge that displays a-frame portal bracing design. It was rehabilitated and the bridge has more alterations than some of the other rehabilitated bridges in the county. Many rivets around the connections were replaced with bolts, and the flooring system was replaced. Modern railings are present, and original railings do not remain. The overhead lateral bracing does not look original either. The sway bracing however, is original, has rivets, and bears the Lackawanna name on the steel. "Eastern" appears on some other bridge members.
Frederick County has large number of historic truss bridges, many rarer than this bridge, yet the county still chose to keep this attractive bridge standing and functional (as well as those rarer bridges too!). While this bridge's rehabilitation altered some parts of the structure, it remains historic and beautiful, far more than any modern replacement could ever hope to offer. Frederick County's widespread truss bridge preservation efforts raise serious credibility questions with other states (Like Pennsylvania) that claim that preserving even a single truss bridge is not feasible, let alone many truss bridges.
