This bridge has been bypassed by a modern (non-historic) double-story Bailey truss bridge that was built in 1988 and this historic bridge has been left in place abandoned. The bridge is a significant example of an uncommon structure type, the double-Warren truss. The bridge appears to retain good historic integrity.
While the fact that the bridge is fenced off when it clearly could support pedestrians is unfortunate, it is nice to see that at least this bridge has been left standing next to its replacement, when many other states would have torn such a bridge down just for the sake of scrap metal and laziness. The bridge would also be a good candidate for relocation and reuse in a new location as a historic bridge for non-motorized traffic.
