This bridge is noted for its unusual balustrade railings. Both the posts and balusters have a pattern set into them that is essentially the same as the design set into the concrete posts of the earliest versions of Michigan's unique type R4 railing. Here, it appears the county substituted the standard ornamental metal railing panels for concrete balusters. This was not the only example of a bridge with this railing design in the county, however it is not found outside of the county, which appears to demonstrate that this is a county-designed bridge and railing, even if it does borrow some details from the state standard R4 railing posts.
