This bridge is one of the earliest surviving examples of a bridge in Michigan using the Michigan State Highway Department Type R4 railing that retains these railings. This is noteworthy because this railing was used widely on bridges in Michigan for many decades, from approximately 1932-1963. The railing design is notably more ornamental than standard railings used in many other states during these years. Like most bridges with R4 railings built in the 1930s, this bridge uses has a trio of inset, tall/narrow rectangles, with the center rectangle being taller, on the concrete railing posts. After the 1930s, this design was succeeded by an inset keyhole style design. This bridge has excellent historic integrity. However, modern Armco guardrails had been added to the bridge very recently at the time HistoricBridges.org documented the bridge.
