This five panel pony truss bridge is located in a scenic and very rural location. The bridge is seated on caissons. Truss bridges are extremely few in number in northern lower Michigan, and as such this traditional pony truss which retains excellent historic integrity and remains open to traffic should be selected for preservation. Given its extremely rural location, restoration for continued light vehicular use might be a good way to go. Alternatively, it could be bypassed or relocated and preserved for pedestrian use. Either way, the preservation of the remaining metal truss bridges in this part of the state is essential.
In 2021, this bridge was closed to traffic following inspection. The bridge may be at risk for demolition in the future at some point.
It is assumed Groton Bridge Company built this bridge based on this company being prolific in Michigan and the cast iron pin caps, plus the latticed verticals combine to make it likely that this is a Groton bridge.
