This bridge is unusual because of its large abutments that differ from the standard abutments that the Michigan State Highway Department usually used on bridges built during this time. The abutments are larger, reaching back further from the superstructure than usual. Despite the somewhat non-standard design, standard Michigan State Highway Department thinking into aesthetics is present on the abutments. The large walls have inset lined that end at small rectangles, providing an appearance similar to the keyhole design found on the standard type R4 railing posts that are present on this bridge. This bridge is also noteworthy for its superstructure, which is a fairly long span for a stringer bridge. Spans over 60 feet are much less common than 60 foot and lesser spans. Likely due to the length of the span (and thus the depth of the beams), riveted, built-up beams are used here. The historic integrity of this bridge is good, although modern Armco guardrails have been added to the bridge. Original standard bronze plaques remain in place on the bridge as well.
