This bridge is a traditional example of a type of bridge that Michigan occasionally built over both rivers and railroads, which was a standard multi-span steel stringer, but which stood on steel bent supports instead of concrete piers. This bridge features this design in its most typical format, and is a good representative example of a mid-20th Century steel stringer in Michigan using steel bents instead of the usual concrete piers. Built in 1964, it is also one of the last bridges known to have been built with Michigan's attractive Type R4 standard railing.
Since this bridge was documented in 2009, this bridge's weight limit has been lowered.
