This bridge acts as a beautiful historic gateway for the village of Middleville. It is built to an early Michigan State Highway Department stringer bridge plan that was short-lived with surviving examples dating from roughly 1926 to 1932. Despite this short span of usage, a fair number of these bridges were built and still remain in the state. Among those remaining, the Middleville Bridge is significant as  a larger, multi-span example that has been well taken care of, at least on the deck surface and railings. The railings are in immaculate condition, and have been repaired and painted. By continuing to maintain and care for this bridge, and perhaps plan for a future rehabilitation project, this bridge can continue to serve as a functional landmark and gateway for Middleville.
