This bridge today carries Rail Street over Silver Street. Rail Street is appropriately named. It originally was not a road, but a railroad line for the Chicago and NorthWestern Railroad and the Duluth, South Shore, and Atlantic Railroad. Today, nothing remains of the railroad line except the name of Rail Street and this railroad bridge. The railroad bridge is far more wide than Rail Street. The total bridge width is 118.4 feet (36.1 meters). The width of the bridge may have to do that it served two railroad companies, who may have had more than one set of tracks each.
The builder of this bridge was the Jutton-Kelly Company. The plaque does not list the company's city of operation. However period literature mentions that their home city was Detroit. However the company appears to have also existed at Copemish, Michigan, perhaps in its later years. The company is reported to have been formed in 1924 by Wardell H. Lyke.
