This bridge is a good representative example of a mid 20th century steel stringer bridge in Michigan. In Michigan, bridges from this period, which might otherwise be mundane and not noteworthy are rendered interesting by the decorative R4 railings and substantial bronze plaques, both of which remain on this bridge. The steel bents with concrete caps are a variation from the normal approach to piers with this period bridge design.

The bridge is mentioned in a historical June 9, 1956 Owosso Argus-Press newspaper article. The bridge cost $52,834.26. The federal aid project resulting in a county share of $29,058.84. The bridge replaced "an old, narrow metal bridge." The initial start of its construction was delayed by a year due to a shortage in steel. The news article mentions that a difficulty encountered during construction was the sinking of steel piles which had to be driven deeper than expected due to an abundance of soft sub soil, a condition that was not expected.
