This bridge is the 64th trunk line bridge built in Michigan, constructed in 1916. As such, it is among the earliest surviving trunk line bridges in Michigan. It is historically significant on that basis. It is also technologically significant as an early example of a concrete through girder in Michigan. The bridge retains excellent historic integrity and appears unaltered including original plaque. The bridge is further noteworthy today as one of the few remaining multi-span concrete through girder bridges in Michigan. There once were more, but most were all demolished. The bridge carries a local road today which was originally the alignment for US-41. As such, the bridge also has significance as a surviving example as a bridge that initially carried US-41, one of the two main travel corridors in the Upper Peninsula. With multiple levels and areas of significance it is unsurprising that this bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
