Bridge Documentation

This bridge is noted for its use of an uncommon Michigan State Highway Department railing, and for crossing the highway via two bridges.

The railing is composed of three tubes supported by cast metal posts. Little is known about this standard railing. It does not appear to have been used extensively, and appears to have been used for only a few years during the transition period between the use of the earlier ornamental R4/R5 railing standards and the later tube and parapet design (R11/R12).

Rondo Road crosses I-75 via two identical bridges, which are separated by an earthen embankment. While other overpasses in Michigan can be found configured in this way, it is a generally uncommon form of overpass.

Bridge dimensions and span counts given above refer to the quantities of each bridge (which are identical). The bridges have a 34 degree skew.

Several contractors are listed on this bridge's plaque. Of interest, E. C. Nolan and Son of Detroit, Michigan is listed as E. C. Nolan and Jarvick Construction Company on the plaque. It is not known if these are separate companies that bid together or if the phrasing on the plaque refers to a merger of these two companies. Other contractors listed are Holloway Construction Company, K. C. Marks, and lastly Argersinger-Morse Construction Company.
