This bridge is a long-abandoned example of a traditionally composed Warren pony truss. It is located in a region noted for its striking lack of historic metal truss bridges, making this bridge regionally rare.
Photographer Pandy Mulder offers this discussion of the bridge:
This abandoned bridge (about 10 miles NE of Gladwin) is in a small wooded valley, a short walk down from the road barriers at the top of each side. The bridge crosses the small river at a right angle to the road (now a 2-track), which makes sharp turns onto the bridge at each end. Years ago, it seems that someone heading east came down too fast and could only make the turn enough to slam into the east truss. Despite that damage and the holes in the deck, ORVs apparently still cross here.
