St. Clair County was one of a few Michigan counties that used this unusual picket railing on a number of its bridges for a time. Aside from addition of Armco guardrails, the bridge is unaltered. However, St. Clair County has a long history of painting bridge beams but leaving original railings to rust into oblivion. This is sadly the case here.
