This bridge is one of several stone faced concrete bridges in this park. This bridge is in a particularly impressive location, right above the falls that are the centerpiece of the park. The stone on this bridge is in particularly pristine condition. John Weeks suggests that the bridge may have been rebuilt or replaced ca. 1994. Due to the location of this bridge, HistoricBridges.org could not safely get a clear look at the underside of the bridge, which would have provided an indication as to whether the superstructure was original. However, the abutments were visible and they appear to be original. It is possible that just the stone facing and deck surface was reconstructed. Also problematic is identification of structure type. Assuming the bridge is not replaced, the bridge was built in 1939 and bridges with the very slightly arched shape like this bridge generally were of rigid-frame construction. However, without knowing the reinforcing design, it is also possible that this bridge is a basic reinforced concrete slab.
