States west of the Mississippi River are not known for large populations of stone arch bridges. This large example is one of the most notable in Missouri. Its large span and location at the top of the hill make it hard to miss. The Historic Bridge Inventory noted it as the largest and oldest known stone arch bridge in Missouri.
Perhaps the most unusual feature of this bridge is the concrete and stone stringcourse on the spandrel walls. The stringcourse forms a shallow arch that is a contrast to the shape of the actual arch itself.
