This stone arch bridge would be beautiful all on its own with its lack of alteration and handsome proportions and span arrangement. However it is also located in the center of a National Register Historic District, and the beautifully preserved historic buildings including a former mill next to the bridge truly make for a unique historic setting that is like a trip back in time.
Information and Findings From New Jersey's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The three-span stone arch bridge contributes to the Bridgepoint Historic District because of its age and integrity of design. It is historically associated with the mill and pond, central features of the village. The bridge is 1 of at least 5 late-18th and early-19th century stone arch highway bridges in the county. The Bridgepoint Bridge is in good condition with some modern repointing. Discussion of Surrounding Area The single-lane bridge spans a mill pond in the 18th- and 19th-century village of Bridgepoint. Downstream from the bridge is a dam creating the pond, and next to the bridge is a mill converted to a residence. The head race and tail race survive.
