This pin-connected pony truss has some very bad repairs on it. While it is possible that the repairs prolonged the life of this bridge, it is hard not to laugh looking at them. On the top chord connections, note the randomly shaped pieces of (scrap?) plate that were haphazardly welded to these connections, and also note the poor weld quality. Bars were added alongside original diagonal members. Again, the placement of plates that are welded to the original diagonals and the new bars seem almost random.
Information and Findings From New Jersey's Historic Bridge InventoryDiscussion of Bridge The traditionally composed 3-panel Pratt half hip pony truss bridge is pin connected. The west abutment is random ashlar construction. East abutment was encased in concrete in 1976. The span has been altered by the addition of numerous welded repairs and reinforcing including repair plates, plates welded to panel points, and replacement diagonals. Floorbeams are also replacements. One of over 20 similar spans, less altered examples are extant in the county. Discussion of Surrounding Area The bridge carries one lane of a lightly traveled country road over a minor stream. It is located in a lightly wooded village setting adjacent to a park.
