This bridge is a traditional example of a Strauss heel-trunnion bascule bridge. Although abandoned in the raised position, it retains excellent historic integrity and therefore is a historically and technologically significant bridge. It apparently is locally known as the Annie Bridge because it appeared in the movie Annie. The bridge is also significant in the context of other bridges in the area, since most of the area movable bridges are either vertical lift bridges or swing bridges, thus this bascule bridge is locally unusual.
