This bridge is one of several impressive vertical lift bridges in this area. This bridge includes a vertical lift span. West of the left span there is a fixed through truss span integrated with the tower, then a free-standing fixed Pratt through truss. Then, there is a long series of deck plate girder approach spans, however there is a single span rivet-connected Warren deck truss stuck in the middle of this approach system. East of the lift span there is a fixed through truss integrated with the tower followed by a series of deck plate girder approach spans, the total length of which is much shorter than the western approach.
The construction date of this bridge was difficult to figure out. Some sources said it dated to 1900 or ca. 1910. However one source listed a 1928 date, which seems most plausible given the design of the bridge and composition of the design details, as well as the fact that it puts the bridge's date very close to when the other lift bridges in the area were built. It is possible but not confirmed that this bridge was designed by Harrington, Howard, and Ash, like the other lift bridges in this area. The firm was one of the most well-known lift bridge engineering companies, so it is not a far-fetched possibility.
