This bridge provides access to a VA Medical Center, which accounts for the roadway name and the banner on the bridge's portal. This bridge is an unusual bridge that does not follow the standard plan for through truss bridges (which designated a polygonal warren design) that New York State used extensively in the state during the 1930s. The bridge's unusual appearance is largely attributed to its portal bracing that is a simple riveted plate rather than something that features a lattice or v-lacing design which is more typical. This bridge further differs from the standard plan since it is a Parker truss, and also because its beams are all rolled and not built-up, and as such have no v-lacing or lattice.
