Bridge Documentation

This bridge is in storage!

Bridge Status: This historic bridge was replaced by another historic bridge, and placed on the ground in storage intact and fully assembled.

This classic pin-connected pony truss bridge was replaced by another historic bridge in a rather unusual project, and now sits on the ground in storage. It is stored in a manner that supports the ends of the bridge and keeps it off the dirt. This is a manner conducive to something other than being scrapped out, so it is hoped that in the long term two historic bridges will be saved rather than just one. Even on the ground as-is, the bridge remains valuable as an "exhibit" bridge. The location given is the storage location.

This bridge is believed to be a product of the Groton Bridge Company based on the overall design details. However it has a unique u-bolt hanger detail at the floorbeams. The u-bolds connect on brackets near the top of the (built-up riveted) floorbeams instead of at the bottom as is typical. This is an original detail and a character-defining feature of this bridge that should be preserved if this bridge is ever reused somewhere.

The National Bridge Inventory listed a 1954 construction date for this bridge which is obviously wrong but may indicate this bridge was moved here from an unknown location at that date.
